King of Sindhu, who received Shiva's boon to hold back the four Pandavas (not Arjuna) for one day. He used it on Day 13 to keep Abhimanyu alone in the Chakravyuha. Arjuna's vow to kill him before sunset is one of the epic's most dramatic moments.
Jayadratha had once attempted to abduct Draupadi from the forest and was humiliated — Bhima dragged him shaved-headed before Yudhishthira. In shame, he performed intense penance to Shiva, who granted a boon: he could hold back four Pandava brothers (not Arjuna) for one day in battle. On Day 13, he stood at the Chakravyuha entrance, barring Bhima, Yudhishthira, Nakula, and Sahadeva from entering to help Abhimanyu.
Hearing Abhimanyu was dead and Jayadratha had blocked his brothers, Arjuna vowed before all: 'I will kill Jayadratha before tomorrow's sunset — or I will immolate myself on a pyre.' An impossible vow — Jayadratha was guarded by the entire Kaurava army. As the sun touched the horizon on Day 14 with Jayadratha still alive, Krishna raised his Sudarshana Chakra to block the sun — giving the illusion of sunset. The Kauravas celebrated, Jayadratha emerged from cover — the sun reappeared. Arjuna's arrow took his head in the golden light.
ಸಿಂಧು ದೇಶದ ರಾಜ. ಅರ್ಜುನನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಉಳಿದ ನಾಲ್ವರು ಪಾಂಡವರನ್ನು ಒಂದು ದಿನ ತಡೆಯುವ ಶಿವನ ವರ ಪಡೆದವನು — ಅದನ್ನೇ ಬಳಸಿ ಅಭಿಮನ್ಯುವನ್ನು ಒಂಟಿಯಾಗಿಸಿದನು.
ಒಮ್ಮೆ ದ್ರೌಪದಿಯನ್ನು ಅಪಹರಿಸಲು ಯತ್ನಿಸಿ ಭೀಮನಿಂದ ತಲೆಬೋಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಅವಮಾನಿತನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. ಅವಮಾನದಿಂದ ಉಗ್ರ ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಿ ಶಿವನಿಂದ ವರ ಪಡೆದನು — ಅರ್ಜುನನನ್ನು ಹೊರತುಪಡಿಸಿ ನಾಲ್ವರು ಪಾಂಡವರನ್ನು ಒಂದು ದಿನ ತಡೆಯುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ. ಹದಿಮೂರನೆಯ ದಿನ ಚಕ್ರವ್ಯೂಹದ ಬಾಗಿಲಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತು ಅಭಿಮನ್ಯುವಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಬರದಂತೆ ತಡೆದನು.
'ನಾಳೆ ಸೂರ್ಯಾಸ್ತದೊಳಗೆ ಜಯದ್ರಥನನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅಗ್ನಿಪ್ರವೇಶ ಮಾಡುವೆ' ಎಂದು ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞೆ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಸಂಜೆಯಾದರೂ ಜಯದ್ರಥ ಕಾವಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತನಾಗಿದ್ದನು. ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಸುದರ್ಶನ ಚಕ್ರದಿಂದ ಸೂರ್ಯನನ್ನು ಮರೆಮಾಡಿದನು — ಸೂರ್ಯಾಸ್ತವಾಯಿತೆಂದು ಕೌರವರು ಸಂಭ್ರಮಿಸಿದರು, ಜಯದ್ರಥ ಹೊರಬಂದನು. ಸೂರ್ಯ ಮತ್ತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡನು. ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಬಾಣ ಅವನ ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ಹಾರಿಸಿತು.
