Chapter 2 · Sānkhya Yoga

72 verses

The Yoga of Knowledge — the longest chapter and the Gita's philosophical foundation. Krishna reveals: the soul (Atman) is eternal, indestructible, unborn, undying — 'Weapons cannot cut it, fire cannot burn it, water cannot wet it, wind cannot dry it.' He introduces the concept of Nishkama Karma: act without attachment to results. 'You have a right to your actions, but never to the fruits of action.' He describes the Sthitaprajna — the person of steady wisdom — who is unshaken by sorrow, indifferent to joy, free of fear, anger, and attachment.
