The sixth avatar of Vishnu — a brahmin who mastered all weapons and cleared the earth of corrupt kshatriya kings 21 times. Teacher of Bhishma and Karna. One of the seven immortals (Chiranjivi).
King Kartavirya Arjuna stole the divine cow Kamadhenu from Parashurama's father Jamadagni. When kings killed his father, Parashurama vowed to clear the earth of corrupt kshatriya kings. He did so 21 times — each time killing and filling five lakes with blood — until his grandfather Richeeka appeared and asked him to stop. He then gave all the conquered land to Kashyapa.
He taught only brahmins — but Bhishma (the greatest human warrior of the age) came as a student. Karna came disguised as a brahmin. Both received supreme training. When he discovered Karna's deception (Karna bore a wasp's sting without moving — a kshatriya's tolerance), he issued the famous curse on his Brahmastra knowledge.
ವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಆರನೆಯ ಅವತಾರ. ಸಕಲ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾರಂಗತ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ. ಭ್ರಷ್ಟ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯರನ್ನು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೊಂದು ಬಾರಿ ನಿರ್ಮೂಲನ ಮಾಡಿದವನು.
ಕಾರ್ತವೀರ್ಯಾರ್ಜುನ ತಂದೆ ಜಮದಗ್ನಿಯ ಕಾಮಧೇನುವನ್ನು ಅಪಹರಿಸಿದನು. ರಾಜರು ತಂದೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಂದಾಗ, ಭ್ರಷ್ಟ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯರನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮೂಲನ ಮಾಡುವ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞೆ ಮಾಡಿದನು. ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೊಂದು ಬಾರಿ ಭೂಪ್ರದಕ್ಷಿಣೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ ಸಂಹಾರ ಮಾಡಿದನು.
ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ವಿದ್ಯೆ ಕಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದನು — ಆದರೆ ಭೀಷ್ಮ ಶಿಷ್ಯನಾದನು. ಕರ್ಣ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣ ವೇಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದನು. ಜೇನುಹುಳು ಕಚ್ಚಿದರೂ ಅಲುಗಾಡದ ಕರ್ಣನ ಸಹನೆಯಿಂದ ಅವನು ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯನೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಶಾಪವಿತ್ತನು.
